WATE Community and Cultural Development Services was created in October of 2003 as a non-profit organization to raise funds to support the establishment of a cultural heritage centre wherein programs and services would be offered to members of Ardoch Algonquin First Nation and off-reserve Aboriginal peoples. WATE received charitable status with Revenue Canada in November of 2006 and began the process of working to toward that mandate as a registered charity.
The programs and services to be offered in the cultural heritage centre and on lands and waterscapes in Algonquin traditional territory include the following:
- Cultural, artistic, social, and recreational programs;
- Educational programs and community activities which foster leadership skills;
- Scholarships and bursaries and awards for post-secondary education for members of the Ardoch Algonquin First Nation;
- Literacy and high school equivalency instruction;
- Health, counselling, and support services to elders, women, men, youth, and children that reflects Anishinaabe culture and traditions;
- Food and other basic necessities to community members in need.
